Trash Beetle, Owner and Proprietor of the Bug Den
Apollo Bugman
“I want it to look like you pulled them out of a trash can” was the sentiment I couldn’t ignore when Apollo approached me about assisting with his stream branding for a 2.0 model debut. (How could I say no!) I was given the opportunity to design logos, beetle themed twitch subscriber badges, and a weekly schedule post template. I was buzzing to work with Apollo on such a fun bug-focused project.

Logo Design
Apollo Bugman
Character Title TreatmentApollo’s 1.0 design was a “sun beetle” and as he transitioned to a “trash beetle” it was decided to have a subtle nod to his initial brand for consistency. The ask was to use flies and webs within the logo and fashion some letters to mimic his characters horns.
Bug Den Dive Bar
Logo DesignApollo runs an underground venue called “The Bug Den” in New Pest City. To bring this design to life within his brand we referenced dive bar neons and made sure this logo would feel like it lived in the same world as the character title treatment.

Weekly Schedule
Calling this template “Trashy” would be the highest of compliments. The brief described that it should look like the back alley of “The Bug Den” - trashcans and all.

The Design Process
Character Title Treatment
Apollo was prepared in his vision for stream branding and provided a wonderful mood board and list of descriptor words for me to work with. After doing a short consult I began working on the sketches! I like to provide a few different one color sketch options to narrow the client’s vision on the shape of the logo and allows for collaboration and alignment. After the direction was selected it was refined in illustrator with colors and we let the bugs & brain worms guide the rest of the process.
Bug Den Logo
The Bug Den Logo was a welcomed edition to the collection and allowed for more exploration of the stream’s world building. Apollo wanted the Bug Den logo design to match the neon tubing signs outside of dive bars which helped influenced my design choices. I wanted to make sure that both logos spoke the same language and lived in the neighborhood but had enough personality to differentiate them. Music is a large part of Apollo’s brand so our ideas stemmed from music motifs and developed by adding his guitar along with the familiar elements used in the Apollo logo.
Sub Badges
Initially, it was undecided if the badges should be different bugs for each milestone or the lifecycle of a beetle. After some ideation we landed on the lifecycle - that way when Apollo looks at his chat he can see the grubs grow as fans in real time.
Weekly Schedule Template
This schedule template is meant to reference the back alley trashcans behind the Bug Den. It was a fun challenge to figure out how we utilized the “trash” theme within the schedule for each stream states - offline, single stream, double stream, and a special stream. In the end I feel like we accomplished the vision with plenty of grime on top!
“If you have a vision, they'll get it done. I can't recommend them more honestly. Every single thing I needed done was done efficiently and they listened to every idea I had and brought it to life. LOOK NO FURTHER!!!”
